IRB EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL 7′S FESTIVAL

2 days! 16 Nations! 44 Matches! One great weekend!

GERMANS CAN BE FUNNY!!!!!

Henning Wehn and Otto Kuhnle might appear to be on a hiding to nothing, yet, there they go trying to convince us that the Germans are actually a funny bunch. And while we can’t speak for the rest of them, these two certainly go some way in scotching that national stereotype with some cutting contemporary humour (Wehn) and a slab of Berliner Kabarett (Kuhnle).   The Stand 8.30pm 11 May

EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL MAGIC FESTIVAL

All things magic have joined the festival party, pulling their own brand of special out of the hat. The inaugural Edinburgh International Magic Festival will be set over five days from 7–11 July, in venues including The Lot, the Scottish Storytelling Centre, The Studio, and The Vault. Highlights include the BBC’s The Real Hustle guru Paul Wilson and Trisha’s Drew McAdam aka ‘The Human Lie Detector’ explaining the art of persuasion. Former Fringe performer Xavier Mortimer will also be on hand with his trademark blend of juggling, music and magic. Festival director Kevin McMahon said: ‘The rise of David Blaine, Derren Brown and Harry Potter has seen a new generation of magicians and magic-lovers. We believe that the city that inspired JK Rowling’s world-renowned books should play host to a world-renowned magic festival.’

BELTANE FIRE FESTIVAL 30 APRIL

The Beltane Fire Festival is held every year during the night of 30th April on Calton Hill in Edinburgh. An audience of around 12 thousand people come to share the spectacular procession.

Justifiably famous for its intensity and colour, the event has become a much-loved feature of the Edinburgh calendar since it was first organised in the mid-1980’s.

Beltane Fire Society is part of a large and important culture both in Edinburgh and the rest of the world. We hope that our efforts will inspire others to get involved in celebratory works around the globe.
